I Need Halloween Costume Ideas

For Halloween this year, we're running a swing dance. This will be a charity fundraiser & we're hoping for a crowd of 450-600 ish.

As one of the organizers, it's pretty much a given that I need to be in costume. Add to that the fact that my partner and I will be teaching the pre-dance lesson & it becomes even more important. However, I don't have a clue what to go as & am looking for ideas/suggestions!!

There are a couple of things to keep in mind:
  • Because this is a dance event, I've got to be able to move/dance in the outfit.

  • The ballroom where we will hold this event is neither heated nor air conditioned; in late October, the weather could be a bit nippy, but between the sheer volume of people (if we get the crowd we expect) and the fact that we're all moving around, it should actually be pretty comfortable in the ballroom once things get going.

  • I do have some sewing ability, but it's limited as is the amount of time I'll have to put into this endeavour, so it can't be too difficult if I have to make it myself.

  • I'd prefer to stay away from "a poodle skirt & saddle shoes" or anything like that that is quintessentially 1940s or 1950s -- since we're running a swing dance, those are just too obvious & as an organizer/instructor, I've got to step it up beyond the obvious.

So, there you have it. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please speak right up as I'm all ears.

Thanks!!

Argh - I am useless. I was going to suggest the poodle skirt.

Do you and your partner want to do matchy matchy?

Tarzan and Jane?

Not "matchy matchy", but coordinated would be ok....for instance, one thing we've joked about doing (but can't pull together in time for this year) would be to have me in a military uniform & him in a "Rhett Butler" type of outfit. That way, we could be "An Officer and a Gentleman" -- for those who got it, it'd be pretty funny/clever, but we'd both be ok without the other one.

Here are some ideas:

Aladdin and Jasmine
Fred and Ginger
Hans Solo and Princess Leah
Dorothy and the Scarecrow
Lucy and Ricky Ricardo
Robin Hood and Maid Marian
Batman and Catwoman

I hope this helps. Let me know.
